Quiksilver Groms Tour 2001
The Quiksilver Groms Tour is designed to give young surfers in all areas a taste of competitive surfing and to make the experience fun.
The first event of the tour was held in brilliant sunshine and small but very contestable waves at Saltburn in Yorkshire. The young East Coast competitors proved that there is plenty of surfing talent, and good surf, outside of the mainstream surfing areas.
Local surfer, Evan Rogers, dominated both divisions and qualified for a slot in the grand finals to be held in Newquay in August.
Former top professional surfer Gary Elkerton was joined by current British Champion Gabe Davies in signing autographs and presenting prizes at the event.
The next leg of the tour will be in Croyde in North Devon on the 9th or 10th June and entry to the event is open to any surfers who satisfy the age requirements.
There are four qualifying events prior to the Grand Finals with all competitors receiving a Quiksilver goody bag.
